Moving your website and email services to Modus Systems requires careful planning to minimise downtime, prevent data loss and ensure that your existing website is compatible with our hosting environment.
Before recommending a hosting package or confirming migration costs and timelines, we must first assess your current hosting setup, disk usage, website requirements and email configuration.
Information Required
Please provide the following details where applicable:
1. Current Hosting Account Access
Provide access to the customer portal used by your current hosting provider, such as:
- Afrihost ClientZone
- xneelo KonsoleH
- cPanel
- DirectAdmin
- Plesk
- Another hosting management portal
This is normally the most efficient option because it allows us to review your website files, databases, email accounts, DNS records and current storage usage.
2. Hosting Control Panel Access
Where separate control panel credentials are available, please provide the login details for the control panel managing the domain.
This may include access to:
- Website files
- Databases
- Email accounts
- DNS records
- Backups
- SSL certificates
3. WordPress Administrator Access (Where Applicable)
Where hosting account or control panel access cannot be provided, WordPress administrator access may allow us to assess and migrate the website.
Please note that WordPress access alone may not provide access to email data, DNS settings or all website files.
4. Email Account Information
Where the current hosting account cannot be accessed, please provide:
- A list of all email addresses that must be migrated
- The approximate mailbox sizes
- The email platform currently being used
- Access credentials required to transfer the existing mailbox data
Email passwords and other sensitive credentials should only be shared through an approved secure method. Do not send passwords through ordinary email.
5. Existing Backup Files
Where access to the current hosting environment is unavailable, you may provide any available backup files for assessment.
Backups may include:
- Website files
- WordPress backups
- Database exports
- cPanel backups
- Email backups
Large backup files may be shared using WeTransfer or another secure file-sharing service.
Important Domain Transfer Notice
Do not initiate or approve a domain transfer until we have reviewed your current setup and provided instructions.
Transferring a domain too early can complicate the migration and may cause:
- Website downtime
- Email interruptions
- DNS configuration changes
- Loss of access to the current hosting account
- Delays in completing the migration
A domain transfer and a hosting migration are separate processes. In many cases, the website and email services should be migrated and tested before the domain registration is transferred.
What Happens After We Receive the Information?
Once the required information has been provided, we will:
- Review the current hosting environment.
- Check website and server compatibility.
- Confirm the amount of website and email storage being used.
- Identify any special requirements or potential migration risks.
- Recommend the appropriate hosting package.
- Confirm the migration cost and expected process.
- Provide instructions regarding DNS changes and any domain transfer.
If you do not have the required login details, please contact your current hosting provider and request access to your hosting account, control panel or backup files.
